1960 Aloha Rebuild

November 21st
Trailer has been moved is now setting in our driveway, i have not been able to work on it or anything ells very much over the last 5 1/2 months but have it close enough now that when spring gets here i can hopefully get back to it.

i did make a new bed total cost was $231.73,  also spent three days removing the windows and replacing the putty tape, and have put a tarp over it for winter cost $23.00

Cost so far;     over the last five months 23 hr.’s -$254.73          Total Hours = 59 ½    Total $$ = 442.68      Still a very cheep investment

May 22nd
Finally got back over to work on trailer, Got the front wall back together and the medal back on, am going to have to put a skirt on the old girl. The weather is still on and off but today was good, next will have to take out all windows, the door and lights and deputy, the putty tape showed up about the same time the rain did so it is still in the box, Also am starting on the bed looks like it will be the biggest cost so far $640.00but still working on it really hope to come in a bit less on the cost, but don’t want a used materials and really don’t want just foam, so might have to save up and dish out the $640.00 Looks like it could rain aging today so probably won’t go over today Cost so far; Today = 6 hr.’s -0-$ Total Hours = 36 ½ Total $$ = 187.95
April 20th 2018
April 20th 2018 Ordered putty Tape to day should be here in 7 to 10 days Weather should be good by then so i can take all trim and windows off trailer and replace the old putty, Found a good deal got 180 feet for 27.96 plus 9.99 shipping total 37.95 or 21 cents a foot
Cost so far;
today = 30 min     -0- $      Total Hours = 30 1/2       Total $$ = 187.95
March 14th 2018
Well the weather looks like it might be nice enough to start working on the trailer aging
On the 19th will order the putty tape it should take a week for it to arrive
so that week will take out all windows, doors, vents lights and anything ells that is sealed with putty tape and clean,
at that time will determine if i will paint her,
well it really depends on the $$,
Napa mixes auto paint and will put it in a aerosol can, have to find out how much paint it will take and how much paint will cost.

Any input on color or colors that should be used??       If you have an idea please E Mail me with your opinion

Thinking of just painting the inside also the interior is in rather good shape but does have the water stains in two spots
checked and limber is all still intact no dry rot,
so really doesn’t have to be replaced.

Well that it for now, getting excited to get back to work on her.

today 0 hours, 0 $        Total Hours = 30      Total $$ = $150.00
January 24th 2018
Have come up with a plane Lord willing will finish the trailer for us to use not to sell.
Went over yesterday and was looking at things and made the choice to keep,
so am not going to worry to much about keeping original will go ahead and paint inside and out,

This spring will take out all the windows and outside molding and trim off, paint and reseal,
the old girl doesn’t have any leaks but could use all new putty tape,

Will replace the metal water tank and put a 12V pump in,
have decided on a Tuft and Needle mattress for bed,
and will remove the large wall heater and replace with a much smaller heater that will put out just as much heat,
also will pick up a solar system to help keep batteries charged.

Still haven’t tried out the oven but just looking at it and all the fittings looks like it should work fine if not will replace
with just a cook top and put another water tank in the space the oven is in now.

Will be putting in LED lighting to cut down on battier usage, and insulating under the floor with 2” blue frame in frame work.

The front wall under the window will be a solid sheet of 1 1/8” ply wood, it will add 43lbs to the tong but that will not be a problem,
the seats for the dining table will be replaced with the same materials as the Tuft and Needles mattress so when made in to a bed will be just as comfortable.

All and all with what will be taken out and what will be added the weight of the trailer will end up being right at 32lbs heavier, but still balanced

Well that’s where we are right now

Last year when the thaw happened we hade three inches of ice in the back do to thaw and refreeze, hope this takes care of that.

Perhaps this week i will get over and finish getting the trailer buttoned back up.

i know not very exciting but life keeps moving forward trailer or no trailer.

September 26th 2017

OK i'm bad about taking photos. i do not pack a cell or smart phone with me (have no use for one, need me come find me, have someone come get me, wright me a letter or call my wife she has one) over the last month i have forgotten to take the camera with me, today i took it and got home and as i was taking it out of the van realized i took no picks. maybe tomorrow!

The front steel cross member on the frame of the trailer had been bent on both sides today i pulled them almost back to where they are supposed to be, have a little fine-tuning to do and they should be fine. If need be i will weld new arms on next week.

Went and picked up some lumber and screws to rebuild front wall $55.85 going to add a few lbs. to the front, going to put in a piece of 1-1/8" plywood for stretcher purposes.

Still can't get over that there was no rot in frame work, all water damage was superficial only the paneling on in side had damage,

when taking front apart looked like someone ran the front end in to a gravel bar then backed back over it and pulle the front loos, when i took the bottom of the wall of got about a gallon of gravel out of it.

today 5 hours $55.85      Total Hours = 29     Total $$ = 150.00

September 23rd 2017

Friday went to town and picked up rest of windows   $17.50    1.5 hours.

today opened up the front end, amazed,,, found no rot in frame work, inside paneling ruined from window being broken but must not have been broken long enough to allow water to get to framing.

What i did find was that the frame work running horizontally was not fastned at all to the left side wall,  the assembly line must have been moving along to fast for the person doing the nailing to keep up.

Other problemfound when thay ran the front over what ever they ran over it pulled the wall away from the floor and seemes to have follon 1.5 inches, kind of funny the outside looks fine, the side walls are still on the floor and the floor is still in great shape, no rot, so going to take apart and replace sectionof wall below window with 1"x 4" instead of 1"x 2"

Spent 4 hours pulling all nails and carefully removing the skin

Took the lower front skin clear off at seem by using a putty knife, gently loosening the seem than lifting lower skin from upper skin from behind.

To put back will reverse the process, from behind will hang lower pice on lip of upper pice and then use a 1/4 inch x 2 inch x 6 inch pice of steel from behid and one in frount and hammer the two back to geather, have done this before and if you take your time works very well

will try to remember to take camera next time and get some picks posted.

today 5.5 hours $17.50 $$       Total Hours = 24    Total $$ = $94.26

September 18th 2017

Went back over today and started taking trailer apart taking screws out and cleaning off old putty, also made a more in-depth list of thing i'm going to need to be replaced or repaired.

This is where things can get a bit expensive if you can't fix them yourself, most things can be repaired if you take the time to study them out, and are not impatient.

Take a bent L rail if you take the time to find something heard that will fit in the J (i use a pice if steel rod) take your time you can straighten it back out then sand it and polish it up and can look as good as new. This alone can save you hundreds of dollare, and is a good inside winter job.

lever windows can usually be repaired rather than replaced; a little time, patients and effort can save you hundreds of dollars.

today 3 hours no $$          Total Hours = 18-1/2    Total $$ = $76.76

September 14th 2017

Went over and put wheels on trailer, also put on front tong jack, took my time so took longer than should have, but was having a good time so didn't care. pulled her over so front is under a roof, we are getting rain and they say we could even get some snow, but in two weeks we should be back in the 90's so i am hoping to get the wood work done on the front wall so that when it is back in the 90's i can get the metal back on.

(( for those who have not done this before but might you want it at least 80 degrees when you put the metal back on, the metal expanse in the heat and contracts i the cold. if you put the metal on in the cold when the weather worms up your metal will expand and you will have bulge's ))

had to pick up some bolts washers and nut for tong and a few lug nuts for wheels.

Today 4-1/2 hours  and  spent $14.86       Total Hours = 15-1/2    Total $$ = $76.76

September 12th 2017

Been an interesting 3 and 1/2 weeks, do to health had to quite the plumbing job i was working on and turn down the one scheduled for next week, but now that i'm doing better should have more time to work on the lod girl.

Today went over and took out the front window cleaned out the broken glass out of frame, also took screws out of J rail on both sides of front, than spent three hours at the local wercking yard looking for three good tiers and a rim, found a maching set of three and a rim to boot, total cost $$0.00 dollars just labor of putting in a home water filtering system, about two hours of my time, they already had the system.

Stoped by local hardware store and picked up a fine grade 4" wire wheel, to help clean up window frame, $5.49

One day this week hope to make it up to get glass for window.

Today  7 hours and spent $5.49     total Hours =11    total $$= $61.90

Time 4 hours  $$ = $00.00        ---       Total time 4 hours  $$ = $56.41

August 5 2017

just went over and sat in the old girl, no work no money, just thinking.

July 31 2017

purchased two quarts of peroxide and two quarts of white vinegar, went to spray down inside and prayer would not work, so went and purchased a new sprayer, good day it was on sale.

The purpose for spraying down with peroxide and vinerar is to kill any germs that may be lingering in the old girl. It also kills mold if any does not just cover up like bleach it actually kills it.

As time went on He just sat, knoqing, knowing what no one else seemed to know.

But staring in to the red leave's He knew spring was on it's way, and that His life would go on as He reflected on the Love He had felt.

And that no mater how the lonely streets desended upon Him He would continue to shin, as He sat their He could be heard sining softly to Himself,   This little light of mine.

Hodgepenny's philosphy has always been take care of home first, only give to those who are truly in need, never, No never take anything that you have not earned. always spend as much time with the Father as you can, for His love will guide and keep you through all things, and this will make your life better than great.
